Portland, Oregon (Part One)

Having been on my bucket list for quite some time, I did not hesitate when the chance to visit Portland came around the first weekend of August. We spent three short nights in Portland, but was able to see both the city and the famed nature that the PNW boasts.

I think that was the biggest charm about Portland for me. It was definitely a city, but there were also pockets of small neighbourhoods and quick nature escapes that added balance. All the more, this balance reminded me so keenly of my dear hometown of Austin, TX.

Here is part one of our adventure. Downtown Portland was really what reminded me of home, with the little shops and food trucks decorating the streets. One fascinating thing about Portland that I wish Los Angeles picked up was that once you pay for parking at a meter, it is valid for any street parking spot downtown. WHAT. Oh the freedom in that. (Are you listening, LA??)

I'll get to more of the scenic Portland in my next post, but for now, enjoy PDX.
